Despite the COVID-19 pandemic and challenges that the community has faced because of it, the Maryland Industrial Partnerships program is continuing as normal, providing new funding for innovative products and new jobs! Students and associates of Maryland public universities are encouraged to apply. Submit your proposal before the deadline: April 30, 2021.
What Is the Maryland Industrial Partnerships (MIPS) Program?
The Maryland Industrial Partnerships program provides funding for university research projects that help solve critical problems that affect economic development. Projects that are funded expand beyond basic research, creating transitional work that leads to new, improved, and life-changing technology product innovations.
Research projects that are accepted are provided with funding (matched by participating companies), facility access, resources and expertise within Maryland’s public universities, and an array of other benefits.
Since the program’s inception in 1987, MIPS-enabled products have driven over $40 billion in sales. The U.S. Small Business Administration recognizes MIPS.
Program Benefits:
- Cost-effective research with world-class university faculty.
- Projects engage university students, state-of-the-art facilities, laboratories, and equipment.
- Companies can select research capabilities to meet specific requirements.
- Nondilutive, nondebt funding for research.
- Opportunity to work directly with talented students — potential future hires.
- Rapid proposal evaluations — MIPS notifies award winners within 60 days of the proposal deadline.
- Makes companies more competitive domestically and internationally.
Where is the program administered?
The program is administered at the flagship campus at the University of Maryland, College Park, and works throughout the 12 member institutions of the University System of Maryland, plus Morgan State University and St. Mary’s College. MIPS works to connect academic-industrial resources to accelerate your innovation.
